Plant Spotlight: American holly

American holly (Ilex opaca) is a native evergreen tree found in Georgia, naturally occurring in each of Georgia's eco-regions. It is a slow-growing tree that reaches up to 60 feet in its southern range. Plants are dioecious so only female trees bear the fruit that birds love. Read more on our profile of this plant.

Upcoming Events

From meetings to workdays to workshops, here's the place to find out what's coming up in the Society. Unless noted, all meetings are open and free to the public so be sure to bring a friend.

Habitat Certification

The habitat certification program had a great year! We now have newly designed signs, a page on the GNPS website, and an easy online application. In 2017, eight new gardens were certified. You can read about them here.
