Plan to join us for our meeting on May. Our speaker, Roald Hazelhoff, Director of the Southern Environmental Center, will share 16 demonstration EcoScape outdoor classrooms that are helping to educate visitors in sustainable practices of planting native plants in urban pockets of Birmingham, AL.

Plant Spotlight: Foamflower

Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) is one of our earliest spring plants to bloom and it is blooming now. Native to the northern part of the state, our members selected it as our 2003 Plant of the Year. We will have some at our plant sale this Saturday. Read the next article to learn where these specimens were blooming amidst some Trailing Wakerobin trilliums (Trillium decumbens). Pocket Field Trip

Several members of the GNPS Board of Directors met at Pigeon Mountain with leaders from the Georgia Botanical Society to enjoy the botanical wonder found at The Pocket and nearby Blue Hole. Often times we all get stuck in our email business and we were fortunate to take some screen-free time to see so many rare and exquisite Georgia native plants.

It was a great opportunity to be outdoors, meet some fellow native plant enthusiasts and learn about dozens of hard to find native spring ephemerals. If you have never been to The Pocket, it is a wonderful treasure you will want to check out. More information can be found here.
