Please NOTE that our March meeting is on a different day this year, March 14th. Toby Sauders, recipient of a GNPS Jeane Reeves grant, will present. His presentation gives an overview of ecological research on the vascular flora of Snake Creek Gorge.
Plant Spotlight: Bloodroot
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is one of our earliest spring ephemeral plants to bloom and it is blooming now. While native throughout the state, populations are mostly found in the upper ecoregions. The common name comes from the red juice that flows when the rhizome is cut. Coastal Plain Chapter News
Coastal Plain Chapter (CPC) members helped with the annual symposium set-up, registration and other duties. The very helpful volunteers that answered the “Call for Volunteers” request were Amy
Heidt, Paul Sumner, Heather Brasell, Eleanor Sikes, Ed McDowell, Mary Alice Applewhite, Helene and Jim Dutcher, Elizabeth and Barrett King, and Gail Farley. Several arrived Friday to help with set-up and enjoyed a fun evening dining out together.
Note: The CPC’s spring meeting is March 28 after the Native Plant
and Wildflower Symposium in Tifton, Georgia.
